How to use this guide: These are researched options, not a claim that every item has been personally tested. Compare the installation requirements and current listing before ordering. Prices and availability are shown by the seller.
01 / Add resistance at your door
Master Lock 270 folding security bar
A practical additional barrier for compatible hinged doors and sliding patio doors. Its folding design also makes it easier to store between uses.
Before you buy: Check the door hardware, required length, and floor contact against the installation instructions. This supplements your primary lock; it does not replace it.

SABRE door and window alarms
An audible contact alarm adds another layer at selected doors or windows. This two-pack is a straightforward option to compare for a simple local alert.
Before you buy: This is a local audible alarm, not a monitored security service. Confirm the sensor alignment, batteries, and operating settings in the current listing.

05 / Keep useful light within reach
SAOPRKLER tactical flashlight
A handheld flashlight earns its place through everyday usefulness: checking a dark area, finding your way during an outage, and seeing what is ahead. Compare the model featured in Matt’s flashlight recommendations.
Before you buy: Check the current listing for power requirements, dimensions, included accessories, and operating controls. Manufacturer brightness claims are not independent test results.

Buy for your situation
What should I start with?
Check your existing locks and lighting first. For an additional physical barrier, begin with the door or window you want to secure and measure it. For everyday carry, choose something you will actually keep accessible and practice using.
Does an alarm keep a door closed?
No. An audible contact alarm alerts you when its sensor is triggered. A security bar or compatible lock adds a mechanical restraint. They serve different purposes.
Can I use a door bar or portable lock anywhere?
Check the specific door, hardware, clearance, and manufacturer instructions. Avoid blocking another person’s access or an emergency escape route. Everyone who needs to exit should be able to remove the device promptly.
No product guarantees protection. Fit, installation, regular checks, and practical habits matter. This guide focuses on supplemental home security and responsible equipment selection.
